New Summer Cocktails

What better way to kick start the London Summer and the Olympic period, than with a fresh exciting new cocktail list!

Since arriving in the UK and commencing at L’Atelier I have been researching and exploring ways in which to give our guests an original and exciting cocktail experience that they won’t find anywhere else. For me 3 things stand out as non-negotiable:

1: Freshness

2: Finest products

3: Offering a new twist on a classic

These three components have formed the backbone of our new cocktail list and our drinks program.

Amongst our Summer edition of our list include the Aviation No.3, Mai Tai & the Aperol Sour

What makes these drinks our own is the way we have interpreted the original recipe/s and made them relevant and unique.

The Aviation No.3 comes from two different schools of thinking on the original Aviation recipe… hence the No.3! One recipe called for Violet Liqueur and the other recipe left it out. In honour of both of these we are using fresh blueberries to give us the colour which the Violet liqueur would have, without taking away from the taste of the other recipe. It has all of the wonderful characteristics that the Gin, Maraschino Liqueur and Lemon Juice originally intended it to have. To enhance these flavours we have topped the drink with a Lemon foam which balances the drink perfectly each sip.

Maita’i roa ae! These were the words first said at Trader Vic’s in 1944 when our next drink was first created…. In Polynesian it means ‘The best, out of this world’ and that is how the Mai Tai got it’s name. Unfortunately due to the original rum being now unavailable, we are using a blend of three aged rums from around the world including the younger version of the original Wray & Nephew. Flor de Cana from Nicaragua, Bacardi 8 originally from Cuba but now based in Bermuda, and the original Jamaican Rum, Wray & Nephew over-proof. These three together with Orange Curacao, fresh Lime juice, Orgeat, and Angostura Bitters allow you to see why this drink has been so famous for so long.

If you are looking for something to start your evening with, or are a fan of Italian Aperitif, then our Aperol Sour is something to try over and over again. We use a base of Aperol, Campari and Yellow Chartreuse shaken with fresh Lemon and Pink Grapefruit and a touch of egg white. The amazing freshness and balanced bitterness makes this the perfect summer aperitif.

Each of these cocktails along with the entire list offer any guest the perfect way to spend a summer’s day or night on our open terrace enjoying the natural ambience of Covent Garden and London in the summer time.
