New Heights

This year, we were offered a wonderful opportunity to open London in the Sky – an event that celebrates the London skyline by hosting dinners cooked by renowned London chefs on a platform suspended a hundred feet in the air.

For us, the challenge of prepping exquisite dishes in a tent and then cooking them in the centre of what could be described as a flying table, was unmissable. It was quite literally a breath of fresh air, that thrilled our diners and chefs alike.

Chefs Xavier and Aurelie worked from an al fresco kitchen surrounded by a 22 seat counter, preparing lunches, dinners and canapés for some of Londons finer diners. The meal opened with a glass of bubbles, pre-flight, to calm the nerves, before getting strapped in and winched up over Canary Wharf. The view was breathtaking, and the menu was a spectacular array of L’Atelier classics, accompanied by some fabulous wines. We can now say with some certainty that there is nothing quite like feasting on quail stuffed with foie gras, with your feet dangling in the air.

After being hoisted in to the air several times across two days, we think our chefs are happy to be back on terra ferma and in the comfort of our kitchens, but the experience was certainly one of a kind, and we look forward to more new and exciting ways of serving up L’Atelier’s theatre of the senses.
